Driving Diversity in Communications.

The communications industry has always been home to brilliant thinkers, challengers and disruptors. We celebrate those different thinkers among us. However, as with many industries, the communications profession faces a serious lack of diversity.

THE IMPRESSION CAMPAIGN

THE IMPRESSION CAMPAIGN 〰️

Seeing the progression to support racialized colleagues through 2020, we believed that a key element to overcoming the diversity gap in communication was being overlooked: recruitment.

“For an industry that is focused on creating impressions for our clients and also measures itself through impressions, we need to do better at making an impression when it comes to diversity. The Impression Campaign is a way to actively recruit more potential communicators from racialized backgrounds into the industry and will help elevate the work that we can do over the next number of years and beyond.”
- Sarah Crabbe, President, Agnostic

Working together with Humber College and Code Black Communicator Network, we launched The Impression Campaign, a scholarship focused on both recruitment and retention of racialized students in the public relations program. Why both? Because the challenges facing students even considering a career in communications need to be addressed, in addition to providing assistance to those students who are already within the program.

Recognizing that meaningful change often required a collective effort, Agnostic called on others in the industry to join the campaign and, to date, we have successfully raised almost $100,000 for scholarships from nine communications agencies - bringing together colleagues and competitors alike to tackle this pressing challenge.

At Agnostic we truly believe that it’s the actions that we take now that will shape the future of communications in this country. We can, as a collective industry, come together to help build a new future for the profession.
